Here’s what people are saying about the things Élan is doing!
In his capacity as MSP for Aberdeenshire East Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond visited Élan Hair Design’s in recognition of the business’ recent awards success and its commitment to sustainability. Mr Salmond said: “The Milton family has overseen a remarkable transformation of Élan Hair Design, as they aspire to become Scotland’s most eco-friendly salon. I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit, and was hugely impressed by the work that has been done to vastly reduce the salon’s carbon footprint. Élan is at the cutting-edge of sustainable business practice and an excellent example for other small businesses looking to help the environment, while cutting their energy bills.”

We are delighted to see that Élan’s outstanding commitment to sustainable business practices has achieved the highest recognition possible. It is a great coup for a family-run, North-east business to have triumphed against strong competition from across the UK. It is also a fine example of the pioneering business spirit that continues to drive our region forward.
Robert Collier, Chief Executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce
“We had a record number of entries from all over the UK, with some excellent tales of innovation, job creation, growth and export success. Élan Hair Design is a fitting winner of the Sustainability Award and shows what can be achieved with a committed management team and a strong vision.”
Martyn Pellew, British Chambers of Commerce President
Kit Pawson, from Oyne, has been an Elan fan for more than 20 years. She said: “I’m a recycler and what Elan has its done with its eco-friendly transformation is remarkable. You never felt you were near a construction site during the project work and the staff bent over backwards at the salon. They have created a vibrant culture of professionalism and friendliness. Our grandsons live in London but they laugh with their friends that their hairdresser is in Inverurie.”

Long-time customer and businesswoman Karen Mackenzie, from Inverurie, says, “I work in waste and composting and have been so impressed by Élan’s commitment to reducing waste to landfill – over and above expectations, including before new Zero Waste Scotland regulations require it. A more genuine and enthusiastic interest as well as a radical and consistent approach is heartening - especially considering the size and locality of the business.”
